Why Jonah 3?

Of all the personal histories contained within the Bible, the one with which I most identify is that of Jonah’s. It’s not that many (any?) of the details of our stories are the same, yet when I read about Jonah’s fickleness, weak faith, disobedience, entitlement attitude, and contempt for his fellow man – I see many of the dark spots that exist within my own heart. That’s why Jonah 3:1 is my favorite verse in all of Scripture.

Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time (Jonah 3:1, ESV)

I’m not sure I could follow a religion that required me to have my act together in my own strength. I joyfully serve a God who brings his word to his people, even the disobedient ones, a second time.
